CM Punk's long rivalry with the dethroned champion Jeff Hardy was well played, but at times became very stale. Although Punk lost the title at WWE "Night of Champions" shortly after which I still don't understand why they didn't just leave the title on Punk , this feud helped establish Punk as a top star and Hardy as a champion. Punk and Hardy's ring-work was phenomenal.
During their series of match-ups, it was the mic work that drew my ire. Although CM Punk made the transition from face to heel so gradual, it seemed authentic. Many fans were still aching to see him turn full fledged heel. On August 28, Punk ended his feud with Hardy. However, he also ended his career after beating him in a steel cage match.

Material like this generated an incredible amount of heat simply because of how blunt and real he was about it. But this will not deter me. I will stay the course. I still believe in teaching you people the difference between right and wrong. And in turn, Jeff Hardy is just like all of you. The reality is, none of you have the strength to be straight edge.
And you can boo all you want. Take one every four hours? That is drug abuse! You gotta be stupid to not listen to the Surgeon General, especially when he prints the warning label on the package of smokes.
You gotta be a fool. And you obviously know what I am talking about, because you cheer, and that is utterly sad. So the vast majority of everybody here in the arena is criminal.
